Have you ever thrown a party or had a barbeque, where some of the coolest people you know fail to show up until it’s almost over?

The six Philadelpians (?!) who comprise Lollipop Lust Kill make great music. It doesn’t hurt that the CD was done by the same producer who did some stuff for Tool and “hot” bands. The CD is essentially ten originals, one cover, and an “intro” and “outro.” I guess having an “intro” and an “outro” is part of the Lollipop Lust Kill show. The opener, “Black All Over” is a cool tune; and followed nicely by “Like A Disease.” Both songs are as good as any of the better stuff by Powerman 5000, Union Underground, Coal Chamber and similar bands of this still un-named genre. I will call it: “Drop-D Mope-Pop.” It’s crunchy, it’s catchy, it’s for kids who hate everyone in the mall they frequent everyday after school. “Father” is their parent-hating tune.

“Knee Deep In The Dead” is silly, but you know, if you’re 14 and full of rage, it’s cool. “Everything I” is a nasty little winner and is LLK’s “Down With The Sickness.” “Sad Excuse For A Grip,” “Perfect Woman” and “Bury You” are forgettable filler. Nothing you’d burn on the perfect “Drop-D Mope-Pop” mix CD. Their cover of Depeche Mode’s “Personal Jesus” is cool, like say, Orgy’s cover of “Blue Monday,” or Disturbed’s Tears For Fears cover of “Shout” or PM5K’s Cars cover, and so on. “Can’t Get Away” and “Kill Greedy” are just more filler.

This band is about 5 years late to the party; if they had come by when Filter or Stabbing Westward was huge, they’d be household names - and a great name at that. They’re cool; the CD is worth your 12 bucks if you like this genre, but for this reviewer, they’re the opening act on the “Drop-D Mope-Pop” package tour of 2015.
