The 19th annual Street Scene in San Diego is happening this weekend, Friday September 6th through Sunday September 8th, 2002. This event features over 90 bands on 9 different stages.
This year will include some rock favorites. On Friday night, Stone Temple Pilots will take the main stage. Also playing that night are Live, Social Distortion and Bad Religion.
Saturday will have their annual Jimi Hendrix tribute. Taking part in the jam will be Ace Frehley (Kiss), Slash (ex-Guns N’ Roses), Dave Navarro (Jane’s Addiction), Vernon Reid and Corey Glover (Living Colour), Mick Taylor (ex-Rolling Stones), Tommy Shannon and Chris Layton (Stevie Ray Vaughan) and Stephen Stills (CSN&Y), among many other guitar greats. Living Colour will be perfoming their own set earlier in the evening. And if you’re down with the funk, check out some James Brown or George Clinton, also performing on a different stage.
Sunday night will showcase the likes of Nickelback, Unwritten Law, Default and Sevendust. A relatively unknown band, Richard Cheese and Lounge Against the Machine, will be performing early on in the evening, with their lounge-warped rock hits, covering such bands as Stone Temple Pilots and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Interesting stuff.
For the entire 3-day line-up and all the details (there’s a whole bunch of diverse, non-rock bands), check out Street-scene.com.
