A Perfect Circle Live at the B

Wow. That’s the best word to describe A Perfect Circle at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco. I am a simple person who like music, I don’t get too into every detail about a lot of bands, but even so, it is clear to me theta Perfect Circle is a band with a lot of meaning to them and a lot of inspiration by each other.

The line up outside was really long. It was a sold out event, so it wasn't surprising. It took about half an hour for us to get in from where we were when the doors opened. Once I got in I started to stand on the floor, and many started to stand up as well (most were sitting down) so I felt like some powerful person ‘cause I made everyone stand up. We waited until The Mars Volta.

The Mars Volta was fucking annoying! They played for an hour, which was too fucking long. When I saw Tool with Tomahawk they only played for 45 minutes. That could have been a band that could have played longer. Well the music was kinda trippy, but the lead singer was annoying. I almost fell asleep.

Once that was over, we waited for A Perfect Circle to come on. I’m used to concerts with 4 or five bands each, so it was cool that there was only one opener. When A Perfect Circle came on, the crowed roared as always. “Vanishing” is what they started with. Maynard did not reveal himself until the next song they played, “Pet.” And through the set, he hardly ever showed his face, as usual.

Maynard had been sick the past few days and this was his first show back. His sense of humor was great. He would refer to us as "deaf hippies" and dedicated “Weak And Powerless” to Arnold. Also he made everyone say "SHIT FUCK" every time he would count to three as a test of censorship.

The band was great to watch; I could really tell how they all inspired. It was my first time seeing Jeordie White live; he seemed to be very happy to play. I was sad when he left Marilyn Manson, but now I see how happy he is in APC and it makes me feel a whole lot better. Also James was really good, too. I was the closest to him.

They played a strong set, including a more rocked out version of “The Nurse Who Loved Me.” Another highlight song was “The Outsider.” That is a really powerful song; I really like it a lot.

Maynard thanked everyone and told everyone to drive safe before launching into their last song, “Judith.” They rocked that pretty hard and went off. No encore, but they are not really a band that does, that so I wasn't expecting one. I thing everyone in the building left were very moved as I was.

Seeing A Perfect Circle is definitely a good experience. In the show I got about 6 feet from the stage, so I got to be close, unlike I was when I saw Tool two years ago. This show was definitely a stoner show, but anyone could enjoy it. A Perfect Circle is coming back the San Jose on June 6th, and I'd love to go see that show. This one was worth my while!
