On Wednesday, Christian rockers P.O.D. received three nominations in the 33rd annual Dove Awards, including one in the highly coveted Artist of the Year category. The awards, organized by the Gospel Music Association, honor the best in contemporary Christian and gospel music. The ceremony will take place April 25 at Nashville's Grand Ole Opry.
P.O.D. will compete against Third Day, Michael W. Smith, Steven Curtis Chapman and Nicole C. Mullen, the last two of whom are in a four-way tie for the most nominations (eight). The band will also be vying for Group of the Year and Song of the Year, for the Grammy-nominated single (Best Hard Rock Performance) "Alive," from last year’s Satellite.
Nominations in 41 categories were at the Frist Center for Visual Arts in Nashville, Tennessee, by 2001 Dove Award recipients Third Day (Group and Artist of the Year), Nicole C. Mullen (Songwriter of the Year) and Nichole Nordeman (Female Vocalist of the Year).
