THE CONTORTIONIST Celebrates Ten Years Of Exoplanet With An Exclusive Livestream Event By Larry Petro, News Monkey Thursday, June 10, 2021 @ 10:04 AM
Comments guitarist Cameron Maynard, “It is beyond exciting to announce the latest livestream concert because it goes back to our old catalog, including songs we haven’t ever played. Rehearsing has proven arduous on the hands and brain, but we have been waiting years for this chance to ‘throw it back’ to the early days of the band. The nostalgia of hearing, celebrating, and representing this music again, a decade later, is it’s own challenge for us, but it is even more cathartic for the band to attack this music with a fresh fervor and perspective on the record that launched THE CONTORTIONIST.”
The virtual performance will take place on June 26th at 7:00pm ET / 4:00pm PT and will be viewable on-demand for forty-eight hours. Find stream tickets (including limited VIP passes) as well as limited edition, throwback/classic merch designs celebrating Exoplanet, at THIS LOCATION.
Metal Sucks has championed the band as, “one of metal’s all-time greats,” while Metal Injection, has likened the band’s evolution to Opeth, Tesseract, and Anathema. Even when angular riffs, odd-time signatures, and devastating breakdowns give way to hypnotic and ethereal trancelike musical meditations, THE CONTORTIONIST never lacks in absolute power. While they’ve proven themselves masters of psychedelic enhanced experimentation and trippy melodicism, endearing them to fans of later period Enslaved and Sigur Ros alike, they’ve never fully forsaken the urgent impact of tech-leaning extremity. “From The Beatles to Pink Floyd to Mastodon, all the great rock bands in history have clear, non-linear musical trajectories,” Metal Sucks observed. “It’s great to see a band taking chances and moving forward. The result is a fully formed band, four albums in, to which no other bands compare. Literally: no one else sounds like THE CONTORTIONIST even a little.”
