New Mexico Venue Charged With Alcohol Violations During Ozzfest Show By Newsferatu, Writer Wednesday, July 5, 2006 @ 10:35 AM
The Journal Pavilion was gigged three times by state alcohol investigators on Thursday for violating laws on dispensing alcohol during July 4th’s OZZFest.
One of the venue’s vendors was charged with providing alcohol to two different intoxicated men. Officials say both men had blood-alcohol levels above 0.14.
A third citation was issued when one concertgoer walked out of the gates of the pavilion carrying a beer.
“A lot of times these folks that put on the events say there’s just too many people, and that’s not the answer,” said Pat Mooney of the Special Investigations Division. “The answer is if you have too many, you need more people watching out.”
Agents also cited two people at the concert for giving alcohol to minors.
The New Mexico Department of Public Safety’s Special Investigations Division has been cracking down on crimes associated with dispensing alcohol since early May. Officials say its an effort to get control of drunk driving in the state.
