Gigantour Softball Game To Benefit Virginia Charity By Newsferatu, Writer Friday, September 29, 2006 @ 10:56 PM
It will be bands vs. crew this Monday, October 2 when Gigantour takes a break in Norfolk, VA for a friendly softball game. The game is taking place at Norfolk, VirginiaR17;s Harbor Park minor league baseball stadium on a day off for the fast and furious traveling festival, which kicked off in early September and wraps October 8.
The 4:00 PM game is open to the public and is free to any fan bringing food donations. All food will be donated to the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia, which is a warehouse or “bank” where recovered and donated food is collected, sorted and distributed to over 600 agencies (http://www.foodbankonline.org). “This is an easy way for us to give something back to the community,” says Megadeth frontman and Gigantour creator Dave Mustaine, “and last year’s game was a lot of fun. This year, we wanted to do it bigger, in a proper stadium with dugouts and everything. And letting fans and neighbors in on it, for charity, really raises the stakes. The roadies think they’re going to pound us, but they’ve never seen some of these drummers swing a bat.”
Gigantour is headlined by Megadeth and also features Lamb of God, Opeth, Arch Enemy, Overkill, Into Eternity, Sanctity and The Smash-Up.
Softball Time: 4:00-6:00 PM (doors open at 3:30PM)
